Gloucester Rugby Club’s community department was established in August 2002 as a self-financing department. Its main aim is to develop links with the local community through programmes using Gloucester Rugby Club’s players and facilities.
The community team promotes a positive life style with focus on social interaction, healthy living, and communication in the real-world.
Social inclusion is another key factor and the community department visits a number of schools throughout the region to encourage community interaction and match day activities. Working with key community stakeholders including, schools, colleges, universities, charities, local rugby clubs, youth groups and businesses, the community team aims to create a network of positive relationships.
It exists to inspire and challenge young people through activities including education and sport, encourage improved social interaction, and offer recreational and health benefits. The Gloucester Rugby Club players play a key role in the programmes as positive role models for children from a wide range of backgrounds.
Throughout its dealings with the local community, the core business of this department is to make a difference to young people in Gloucestershire. The programmes and projects organised and facilitated by the department vary from coaching and health promotion to open days at Gloucester’s Kingsholm stadium.
